Elephant in the room

So, we all know what an elephant in the room is, don’t we?

“An important and obvious topic, which everyone present is aware of, but which isn’t discussed, as such discussion is considered to be uncomfortable.”

Well, unfortunately I seem to have amassed a whole herd of them!

In nearly every area of my life (be it with regards to myself, work, friends or family) there is an elephant or two lurking in the corner. The trouble is that the more uncomfortable the elephant is made by hiding it in the corner, the louder he starts to trumpet, and the harder he is to ignore.

Obviously, the solution to all of this is to expose the elephant, bring him out of hiding and show him for what he is.

In reality this is sometimes more difficult.

Elephants are large, significant and percieved to be slow moving things.  If you expose the elephant, your immediate environment changes. There may be relief that the elephant can now be acknowledged and played with out in the open, or else there could be panic and cries of ‘ahhh fuck, there’s a huge elephant in our room!’. Until you take him by the trunk and lead him out, you never know.

Whilst I slowly start to figure out how to start moving this herd back to Chester Zoo, or even whether I should, does anyone have a spare bag of peanuts please?
