IMAGES: Trafalgar Sun – 23 Jan 2012

IMAG2383

This morning, I got up illegally early to see an art installation, called Trafalgar Sun, which has been set up in London’s Trafalgar Square, commissioned by the Tropicana juice people, as part of their new ‘Brighter Mornings’ campaign, and built by UK art collective Greyworld. Apparently, it is visible from Space!

I decided to head on down, based on the previous popularity of this real life Trafalgar Sun style photo that I shot just before Christmas 2011 – plus, I am always intrigued by some of the art that goes on display in Trafalgar Square, especially that done on a grandiose scale, for all to see.

Here are a few of my pictures (I used camera effects on only the white and the blue one):

(Click any to enlarge – please credit these back to http://garidavies.me.uk if you use them anywhere! :) )

A great art installation, and well worth the 05:20 wake-up call (my images were taken around 07:15). They’re there until around 19:33 this evening (three hours after sundown), and so if you’re out and about in the West End, this is well worth stopping by to see – with the equivalent light as that coming off of 60,000 light bulbs, it literally lights up the whole Square!

IMAGES: MediaCityUK (and Salford Quays)

IMAG2281

Here are some images that I took on Boxing Day 2011 of Salford Quays and the new MediaCityUK development.

None of the pictures have been touched up – in the ones with the stunning blue sky, those were genuinely the colours that we were seeing! :D

Please click to enlarge any image, though you are kindly requested not to use any image without requesting permission first.

IMAGES: Abandoned City – Manchester, 25 Dec 2011

IMAG2185

As any self-respecting geek does on Christmas Day, I went out at around 9am in my home city of Manchester to snap pictures of the abandoned city!

As you may notice, there are very occasional signs of life dotted around, however the silence that was over the city was nothing short of eerie – we were talking in whispers!

Please click on any image to enlarge, and please do not reproduce images without my prior consent first (which will not be unreasonably with-held, so long as there’s an image credit :) ).

PHOTO SET: Paddington Station – September 11th 2011

IMAG1375

I was dropping Max off on Sunday and, whilst he was off having a cig, I took the opportunity to snap a few pictures of Paddington Station, as it’s GORGEOUS at night!

The vintage effect on my camera was used to try and date the photos a little and soften the light – not sure that it’s worked as successfully at high resolution as my phone had first indicated (they look amazing on my HTC Sensation, so please don’t judge the quality too harshly, hehe!).  Some of the blurring was also intentional.

Awesome weather pics – Vauxhall Bridge

IMAG0115

On Friday 10th June, whilst walking back home with Mr Max, we happened to notice some STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL weather displays all around us on Vauxhall Bridge. Literally, the weather was doing something different every 90 degree turn or so. A storm was brewing and the air was so crisp and clear, it was astounding how sharp everything looked!

Anyway, I think these pictures speak for themselves, and to that end, have not been touched up at all – I strongly recommend you click on them to open them up in full screen to appreciate the full awesomeness of them :D

Feedback greatly appreciated! :)

Rainbow!

Amazing that you can actually see the rain falling over Battersea Power Station!

Iceland 2011 – The Photos

Ahoy,

So as most people know by now, Karl and I went on holiday to Reykjavik, Iceland between 9th February and 13th February 2011.

We took so many pictures that it’s actually taken me three days to sort through them all, much longer than I’d anticipated, and it’s eaten into the time I’d set aside for blogging about the holiday to be honest! Therefore, I wanted to share the pictures with you all today and I will catch up with the nice fancy blogs explaining it all over the coming week(s) :)

Many thanks to all who’ve had kind things to say about the ‘teaser’ photos that I’ve been casually releasing on twitter over the past few days as a choice few have caught my eye. Very kind of you all. It’s a stunning place, and it really is easy to get a gorgeous picture!

The best place to view these photos is going to be via my MobileMe gallery: http://gallery.me.com/garidavies

If you can, I’d suggest downloading the albums via the link at the top of each one, and viewing on your local machine, to get a sense of just how beautiful Iceland really is (as then you can enjoy the pictures without the usual online compression) – however the framework for viewing online is still very good for those unable to do so.

The downside to MobileMe is that you cannot add comments or rate the pictures etc, so to that end, for those people who are on my Facebook – these same pictures have also been uploaded there. So if you’d like to comment, I’d suggest that you view in MobileMe, store up your comments in your head, find that same picture in Facebook and then comment! hehe!

** NB – iPhoto is currently being an arse and not communicating properly with Facebook – so for now, photos are just on MobileMe – should post to Facebook overnight!**

Really hope that you all enjoy these photos and I hope that you’ll come back to this blog again soon to read all about what Karl and I got up to – we truly had an amazing time and can’t wait to share it with you guys! :)

GLEE does THRILLER!!! (Picture spoilers in post)

OH. MY. GOODNESS!!!

Glee are going to be doing Michael Jackson’s THRILLER in their first show after the US mid-season break on Sunday February 6th, right after the Superbowl!! (which, for all of us non-US folk, is why they’re on a playing field…. naturally! :-P )

Pictures from the episode have literally only just leaked – here’s a few of them for you (you can click for full sized versions)…

I am soooooo excited, I really cannot wait – this is going to be freaking AWESOME!!!!!

Misty ol’ London Taaaawn!

This morning, there was the most fantastic mist that had settled all over the Thames, which made for a jolly exciting walk into work this morning. From my development, all one could see was a massive sheet of white where the banks of the Thames normally are.

Here’s a few pictures that I snapped on the way :)

I especially like the photo that I have of Tory HQ,  Millbank Tower, which I have entitled “Gosh, Nick Clegg really wasn’t kidding when he said he thought that the sun shone out of David Cameron’s arse!” ;)

Alas, and despite my secret wishes for it to be so, we encountered no aliens in the mist, such as were described in the fantastic Stephen King novel (which Frank Darabont made into an awesome film!).

Early Gari

I’ve been feeling rather nostalgic recently for reasons unknown, and thought that as my friendship circle has taken another expansive turn for the better, that I’d share some of my history with folk and whatnot. These are old pictures that I’ve stumbled across recently that I thought that I’d like to share :) I say “like”…. they’re hideously embarrassing, but they’re part of my story I guess and fundamentally part of the whole reason that I blog (which is for me to look back on in old age!) heh.

So cast your mind back a good number of years (photos start from 2004ish), back to the days of FaceParty (I had 100,000 profile views and was one of the highest viewed people on the site don’t you know? heh), STEPS (I was at their last concert), and bad bad hair on my part heh!

Please, dear readers, don’t judge my former self too harshly! :P

If you’re interested in seeing how I look these days, there are a few pictures in the ‘Photos’ section of my website.

Snowy Britain from Space!

There’s currently an image going around the internet of Great Britain from space in the current snowy climate (taken by NASA’s Terra satellite), which I think we all agree is rather spectacular!

It made me giggle a little to see that Eire is without snow… much in the way that the BBC weather forecasters give us the weather for everywhere except Eire, leaving it blank and weatherless.

More space pictures please!
